Job Description – Site Operatives / Laborer – Civil & Mechanical Works

The Site Operative / Laborer supports civil and mechanical construction activities by performing general labor tasks, assisting skilled trades, and ensuring work areas are safe, clean, and organized. The role involves physical work, use of hand and power tools, and adherence to safety and quality standards on site.

Key Responsibilities

Civil Works

  • Assist with excavation, backfilling, compaction, and concreting activities.
  • Preparing construction materials (cement, aggregates, rebar, formwork, etc.).
  • Support formwork installation, reinforcement fixing, and concrete pouring.
  • Help with masonry, plastering, paving, and road works as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.

Mechanical Works

  • Assist mechanical technicians with installation, alignment, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help in lifting, positioning, and securing mechanical components and piping.
  • Support fabrication, fitting, and basic assembly works.
  • Handle tools, equipment, and materials under supervision.

General Duties

  • Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely.
  • Follow site supervisor instructions and work schedules.
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions, defects, or incidents immediately.
  • Assist with loading/unloading of materials and housekeeping tasks.

Health & Safety

  • Wear and properly use required PPE at all times.
  • Follow site safety procedures, permits, and toolbox talks.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for self and others.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Basic knowledge of civil and/or mechanical site work preferred.
  • Prior construction or industrial site experience is an advantage.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labor.
  • Willingness to work outdoors, at heights, or in confined spaces if required.
  • Willingness to upskill train & learn.
  • Ability to operate plant & machinery and advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Teamwork and cooperation.
  • Basic tool handling skills.
  • Good work ethic and reliability.
  • Awareness of safety practices.

Working Conditions

  • Construction or industrial site environment.
  • Exposure to weather, noise, and physical labor.
